iPhone news: wireless charging, 5G tech delayed
iPhone news: wireless charging, 5G tech delayed: iPhone fans are disappointed that the much anticipated AirPower wireless charging station by Apple has not been launched. iPhone 5G service has also been delayed until 2020, say sources.
It’s the latest thing. Everyone is doing it. We all need it because we’re fed up with replacing those annoying USB cables that get broken every few months. If you are eco-minded, there’s that waste issue to consider too. So what has happened to Apple’s promise to bring users a wireless charging platform in 2018?
The year is almost over. The expected launch in September 2018, was when the new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max were released. This is when iPhone fans expected to see an apple wireless charging unit. Teaser pictures were released as early as 2107. But since then, Apple has gone dark on their cordless promises.
Of course, there are plenty of very good wireless chargers out there for all smartphones. No doubt manufacturers heaved a sigh of relief when iPhone’s own, unique charger failed to materialise. The AirPower charging mat prototype was shown in a pre-launch video way back in 2017. It was supposed to be a one size fits all device for Apple products. It would enable charging for Apple Watches, iPods, iPhones, iPads, AirPods and the like.
Where is the iPhone wireless charger?
So how come a device that was teaser-shown at the launch of the iPhone X and iPhone 8, has simply not materialized?
In 2018 – at the launch of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, the wireless charger wasn’t even mentioned. Furthermore, Apple seemed to distract audiences from noticing too much by introducing a stylus pen – something the Late Steve Jobs was firmly against and refused to do during his tenure as top dog at Apple.
Experts suppose it’s because Apple have encountered hitches in the product development of the AirPower, which is essentially a large charging mat that can charge up multiple types of devices at any one time.
But as usual, the Apple rumour mill is working overtime to compensate, and insiders claim there will be a surprise product launch next month and that the iPhone wireless charger will actually make an appearance before the year is out. So, it may yet make it onto the stocking shopper list.
What’s happening with 5G?
Meanwhile, another service promised by Apple is also dragging its heels towards the public domain. The much anticipated 5G technology, promising super-fast service – so good you can game on it while on the move, has also failed to make an appearance.
However, issues with 5G development continue to delay another launch. According to intel, the modem overheats and could damage the tech, so Apple are holding off until the development process is perfect. After all, we know what happens to Samsung devices – they get too hot and blow their displays – an any phone engineer will tell you. The heat generated by the technology does not do your smartphone any favours.
Despite this, several 5G Android models will apparently be making an appearance in 2019 to coincide when several cities will be launching the 5G service. But Apple has said unequivocally that they will hold off such a launch until 2020.
It could be later of course. This is Apple we are talking about.
What is 5G?
5G is the next step on from 4G. If you love movies or are an avid gamer, 5G will apparently offer users a super-speedy download rate of 1GB per second – and maybe as much as 10GB. Basically, ot will be around 100 times faster than the current 4G system.
