My iPhone won’t recognise the sim card. What can I do about it? In order for any phone to work, be it an iPhone or an Android phone, you are going to need to have a sim card in it. Most of the time your sim card and your iPhone will work in harmony, but there are times when their bond may seem a little broken.

A common issue is for your iPhone an alert that says there is no iPhone sim card when you power up your device. This can be seen in the top left corner.  It’s also really confusing if there is definitely a sim in the tray within the device.

Without recognising that there is a sim within your iPhone, you are not going to be able to receive calls, or texts or use mobile data. Which isn’t exactly what you need your phone to do. So, how do you fix this?

Take out the iPhone sim card and pop it in again

Now, we know that this is going to seem like a simple solution, but believe it or not, this is definitely a good place to start. This is because the problem could be caused by the fact that the sim isn’t sitting in the tray of your iPhone properly.

You can find the sim card tray on the right-hand side of your iPhone, this is opposite the mute and volume buttons. In order to remove the tray, you will need to use the Apple sim card removal tool, which comes with your iPhone in the box.

You need to insert the sim card removal tool into the pinhole, applying a small amount of pressure until it pops out. You can then take out the tray of your iPhone and remove your sim card, before replacing it and reinserting the tray. The tray can be fragile (as is the sim card) so it is important that you take care with this.

Try some other iPhone sim card approaches

Whilst this could help to fix the problem, there are other things that you can try. This includes:

  • Turning on airplane mode and then turning it off again
  • Testing whether there is an issue with the sim card by inserting another one
  • Cleaning the sim card slot

Hopefully these things will help to ensure that your sim card works within your iPhone and that you are able to use it as you hope to.
